Sessions & Session Library
Every recording take is a self-contained session. Organise, rename, retake, and reuse your takes across projects.
What Is a Session?
Every time you hit record, Cameo captures a take — and each take becomes a session. A session isn't just the screen video: it bundles everything that was recorded together into one editable unit.
One Recording, One Session
Record several takes into the same project and each appears as its own session on the timeline. This lets you build a full video from many short recordings — no need to nail everything in a single shot.
The Session Ribbon
Sessions live in a coloured ribbon just above the timeline tracks. Each session is a pill you can click, rename, and reorder.
Click to select a whole take
Clicking a session pill selects that entire take at once — screen, webcam, mic, captions, and zooms together — so you can move or act on the bundle as a single unit.
Stable, distinct colours
Each session gets its own colour so you can tell takes apart at a glance. A session's colour stays fixed even when you delete, reorder, or rename other sessions — and different projects start on different colours, so it never feels repetitive.
Moves as one unit
When you drag a session's video clip, its webcam, microphone, captions, and zoom regions all move with it. The recorded bundle always stays together and in sync.
Working with Sessions
Double-click a session pill to rename it, or right-click it to open the full menu of actions.
Rename
Double-click a pill (or right-click → Rename) and type a new name. The name you enter also renames the take's folder on disk, so exports and reloads always stay in sync.
Re-record (Retake)
Right-click a session → Re-record to shoot a fresh take. When the new recording finishes it replaces that session in place, keeping its exact position on the timeline.
Duplicate
Right-click a session → Duplicate to make an independent copy with its own files and name. Editing or re-recording the copy never affects the original.
Reorder
Use Move Earlier / Move Later from the session menu to change the order of takes. The timeline shifts the whole bundle so everything stays aligned.
Delete
Deleting a session removes the take and ripple-closes the gap so later sessions slide over automatically. It's fully undoable with ⌘Z.
Export & Chapters
Right-click a session → Export Session to render just that take to its own file. With two or more sessions, use the list icon in the Sessions header to copy YouTube-style chapter timestamps.
Session Library
The Session Library lets you save a finished take and reuse it in anyproject — an intro clip, a recurring outro, a reusable demo segment, and so on. Saved takes are kept in the app's own storage, not inside a project folder.
Survives Project Deletion
Because library takes live in the app's library rather than the project folder, they stay available even if you delete the project they came from. A real thumbnail is captured for each one so it's easy to recognise.
Saving to the Library
Save a take
Happy with a session? Right-click it → Save to Library. Cameo copies the take into its library and captures a thumbnail.
Open the library
Click the tray icon in the Sessions header to open your library of saved takes.
Insert it three ways
Pick how the saved take should come into your project — see the options below.
Three Ways to Reuse a Take
Editable Session
Inserts the full bundle — screen, webcam, mic, captions, and zooms — as a brand-new editable session. Adjust everything just like a fresh recording.
Finished Single Clip
Inserts the take as a single, already-rendered clip. Ideal for a polished intro or outro you don't want to re-edit — it drops in as one tidy piece.
Floating Video Overlay
Inserts the take as a floating video overlay you can position and resize on top of your current recording — perfect for a webcam-style reaction or a picture-in-picture clip.
Know What Came From the Library
Inserted library takes carry a small badge on their ribbon pill so you always know their origin. Their right-click menu also hides actions that don't apply — for example, a finished clip has no Re-record.

Update or Save as New
Edit an inserted library take and choose Save to Library again — Cameo asks whether to update the original library item or keep a separate new copy.
⚠️ Deleting a Library Item Is Permanent
Removing an item from the library deletes its files for good — this is the one action that isn't undoable. Everything else (deleting a session, reordering, region edits) can be undone with ⌘Z.
Pro Tips
Record in short takes
Instead of one long recording, shoot several short sessions. If one take goes wrong, just re-record that session — the rest of your timeline stays untouched.
Build a reusable intro/outro
Save your branded intro and outro to the library once, then insert them into every new project as finished clips.
Rename as you go
Give each session a meaningful name ("Intro", "Feature demo", "Wrap-up") so long projects stay easy to navigate — and your exported chapter titles read cleanly too.
