Audio Tracks in Cameo

Cameo has three types of audio sources you can control independently.

🖥️

System Audio

Sound from your Mac (apps, notifications)

Embedded in the video file. Control volume or mute in the Video track settings.

🎤

Microphone (Voice)

Your narration and voiceover

Separate audio track with enhancement options. Shows waveform in timeline.

🎵

Background Music

Music and ambient audio

Import any audio file. Supports auto-ducking during voice.

Microphone Settings

Basic Controls

0% to 200% (boost available)

Mute

Silence the mic track

Solo

Hear only this track

Fade In/Out

Smooth volume transitions

Voice Enhancement Presets

Cameo includes professional audio processing to improve your voice recordings.

No audio processing. Raw microphone input.

NaturalDefault

High-pass filter + limiter. Removes low rumble while keeping natural voice.

Background Music

Adding Music

1

Click the Music Track

Select the music track in the timeline

2

Import Audio File

Click + to add MP3, WAV, M4A, or other audio files

3

Position on Timeline

Drag the clip to where you want it to start

Auto-Ducking

When enabled, background music automatically lowers when you speak, then returns to normal volume. This keeps your voice clear without manual volume automation.

Ducking Level: 70%

Music plays at 70% volume during voice

Per-Clip Control

Adjust ducking level for each music clip

Timeline Visualization

Ducking regions are highlighted on the timeline with a badge showing the result volume (e.g., "70%").

Reading Waveforms

Audio tracks display waveforms to help you see where sound occurs.

Tall Peaks

Loud audio (speech, music)

Low/Flat

Quiet or silence

Audio Tips

Music Volume

Keep background music at 30-50% volume so it doesn't overpower your voice.

Fade Transitions

Use fade in/out at the start and end of music clips for smooth transitions.

System Audio

Mute system audio if it contains notification sounds or unwanted app audio.

⚠️ For Auto-Captions

If you plan to use Whisper auto-captions, record voice without background music mixed in. Music can cause Whisper to "hallucinate" incorrect text. Record voice-only, then add music afterward.
